Below you
will find out what to bring to a costuming workshop.
Fabric, trim and notions not included, but may be
available for purchase at studio depending on
workshop.
THINGS TO BRING
Sewing Machine
~ that
works!
Scissors ~ good enough to
cut fabric
Fabric
~ for your outfit
(make sure you have enough)
Trim ~
if you want to accent your costume
Thread
~ if you are
matching fabric
SEWING MACHINES
Classes include
instruction in areas of design, fitting and sewing.
Please bring a working sewing machine. If you do not
have a machine we highly recommend purchasing one
for our classes and future use. It will save you
lots of money in the long run!
For those that do
not want to make such a purchase at this time, we
will have sewing machines available for $15 an hour per
person. So, if you are taking a two hour class it
will be an additional $30 and must be paid at the
same time as paying for your class to reserve a
machine.
PURCHASING FABRICS
We will also have
a variety of suitable fabrics and trim available for
purchase at the studio. So, if you are purchasing
from us you will want to either purchase your
yardage when paying for your class or arrive 1 hour
before your scheduled class to find the pieces you
want for your garments.
You may choose to
buy your materials to bring with you to the
workshop, but before buying anything please read the
workshop description and make sure to choose the
recommended fabrics, trims and notions that are
suitable for the garment you are making.
SEWING LEVEL
When
taking a workshop please keep in mind the sewing
level. We have each workshop marked as beginning,
intermediate and advanced. We want this to be a fun
experience for you so please consider the difficulty
you may have if you are a beginner taking an
advanced class!
We highly
recommend starting with one of our beginning classes
and moving up to the next level after completing
your first garment workshop. And, for those of you
that are advanced taking a beginning class...it is
easy to make your project more challenging just by
adding trim.
WORKING TIME
All costume
workshops are $30 per person for two hours. Classes
are figured on an average working/sewing time. This
is usually enough time to discuss, measure, make
pattern, cut and sew your garment. We recommend some
sewing experience, although it is not mandatory.
If you are
a beginner and more time is needed there will be 1
hour between classes to finish your garment. If you
need assistants there will be an additional charge
of $50 an hour for the teacher and $65 for the
teacher/machine. Teacher discounts will apply for
groups (add $25 per person).
DISCOUNTS
We try to have a
theme for each monthly workshop. And within each
weekend workshop we usually have 3 classes. So, if
you are signing up for multiple classes in a
workshop or bring friends you can save some money!
Sign up for all day classes or bring two friends and
you only pay $75.
A few things to
keep in mind are:
A)
discounts cannot
be combined or applied to other weekend workshops
B)
our workshop
class cost does not include fabric, trim, notions,
machine or scissors
C)
taking a class may not be cheaper than buying a
finished garment, but can save you money if you want
to make more garments for yourself, friends,
students or troupe (and...hey ~ you may even make
some money if you want to sell what you make!!!)
SCHEDULING
All classes will be at the Katrina Marie studio in Hoosick
Falls, NY (New York) unless otherwise noted. Our
space is limited to a maximum of 8 students with a
minimum of 3 students needed per class. In this case
the workshop may need be rescheduled at an early
time or another date.
Our closing date
for workshops is 1 week prior to scheduled date. So
please get your friends together and plan ahead!!!
Making your costumes, dancewear and performance wear
is just as much fun as getting dressed up and
dancing!!!
